About me

My name is Jessica. I am a journalist and cinematographer based in London but I was born and raised in Madrid (Spain) I am half Spanish and half Nigerian with a little bit from Cameroon and Congo. I studied Journalism and Cinema at King Juan Carlos University, Sociology at the Distant University of Spain (UNED), and I am currently specializing myself with a MA in Media and Development at Westminster University.

I have always had a passion for graphic design, creating websites and illustration. Everything started as a hobby. In my path (media) I discovered I can do multiple things with technologies to tell stories in so many different ways, illustration and poetry allow me to express myself with freedom forgetting about the formal procedures that journalism requires. I am a self-taught, curious woman who is always trying to improve herself, therefore my art and my poetry.

As a black woman, I experienced different types of discrimination (based on race and gender) which made me realize that my aim in life is to fight for human rights. There are different ways to join the battle but I have chosen my writing skills and illustration as a way to spread a knowledge and a fair representation because media and the network is where the revolution is going to start. That is why my projects are currently focused on portraying black women of all shapes and tones, in the near future, I want to portrait women around the world.

In my writing space I love to talk about politics and social issues that are related to Africa in particular, or any disadvantaged “minority”.

I hope you enjoy my art and writings as much as I enjoy doing it.
